Discovering the USA from costal California to Colorado mountains on Haibike’s ePerformance bikes has been our biggest adventure to date, This first ever expedition with the Yamaha system turned out ot be 5,000 kilometers long and with 57,000 meters climbed it seems to have set a new record.
Over 10 weeks, we experienced the greatest contrasts in climate and scenery while passing through the most iconic landscapes of Western USA. The journey reached its final destination in Denver in June. Read our blog here!

E-Bike Africa is a world record setting expedition from Glasgow to Cape Town. This 20,000 kilometer challenge on Haibike electric bikes aims to raise awareness of the environmental and human cost of climate change. Pulling solar trailers we promote innovative technology that can be part of the solution in Europe and Africa.
I am excited to join Bruce MacLeod on most parts of this trip. We started in Glasgow last November and cycled to the COP21 UN Climate Conference in Paris. Watch the documentary of the tour's first leg here! To be continued …
In June 2015, we set out to explore the latest achievements in e-bike technology. Trial world champion Marco Hösel, vehicle designer Norbert Haller and myself (what an honor!) took the brand new Trefecta e-bike on a discovery journey through Berlin and its surrounding woods.
This beauty can be pushed to 70 km/h by pedal power and using a 4-kW-motor it easily turns into a real beast! Watch the stunts, meet the riders and learn about the bike in our video “Berlin Trefected”.
In summer 2013, we faced the elements of the North on a 4,000-kilometer, 4-week expedition through Iceland’s stunningly beautiful scenery which as been shaped by ice and fire. In wind, rain and chilly temperatures we took the speed-pedelecs of the new eflow brand to the ultimate hardness test before they entered the European market.
While crossing wild rivers, jagged glaciers and several hundred kilometers of vast lava desert we witnessed the most amazing spectacles of nature in 24 hours of daylight.
In summer 2012, this one-month adventure took us into the wilderness of Mongolia where we travelled on speed-pedelecs equipped with the center-motor from Bosch. While doing a lot of cross country riding on good, bad or no trails at all, outdoor expert Ondra Veltrusky and myself explored the mountains and treeless plateaus of central Mongolia.
While we learned to slow down and let our pedelec-nomads' life flow at its own pace, we traveled in a completely self-sufficient way, fully relying on our second-generation solar trailers to recharge the batteries.
This 1,000 km journey started in February 2011 in the crowded streets of Marrakesh, where we explored the bustling bazaars before heading out into the Atlas Mountains. We loved the winding roads, rocky peaks, and magnificent canyons before the mountains give way to the Sahara desert.
Two pedelecs using a 500 Watt GoSwiss Drive hub motor allowed myself and e-bike dealer Sebastian Plog to cover up to 175 km per day. For power we towed our specially-built first-generation trailers outfitted with solar panels.
I’ve been involved in electric bikes for almost 20 years, and have discovered pedelecs as great vehicles for the big and small adventures, not only in far-away dream-destinations but also in front of my doorstep. Inspiring people around the globe about what is possible on electric bikes, even in the toughest conditions, is the idea behind Pedelec Adventures.
Developing, organizing and riding these tours, allows me to combine my expertise and network the bike industry with my passion as a journalist, photographer, public speaker and cyclist. Life is an adventure! Every day.
